Real Reasons CEO’s are Fired
I came across this article on the T&D Blog which quote a four-year study from LeadershipIQ.com for why CEO’s are fired. Perhaps the surprising point is none of the top five have anything to do with financial performance of the company. The top reasons CEO’s were fired are:
- Mismanaging change (31%)
- Ignoring customers (28%)
- Tolerating low performers (27%)
- Denying reality (23%)
- Too much talk, not enough action (22%)

PoliceShift – Premier web based solution for businesses needing police for security needs
If your are a business who sporadically has a a need for a certified police officer for your security needs, check out PoliceShift (www.policeshift.com), which is the premier web based solution for this business need. The challenge that normally exists for businesses is that they might not have the network or contacts to have access to certified police officers to suit their needs. On the officer side of the equation, there isn’t a streamlined process for officers to have equal access to off duty shift requests, so the demand greatly exceeds the supply through the traditional network. PoliceShift provides the web based solution which matches businesses to any officer looking for shift work.
Here are three videos about: PoliceShift, client testimonials, and officer testimonials.

Here is a great post with a clever title by Mark Toomey, leading expert & seasoned advisor to boards & execs on corporate governance of information technology and ISO 38500, that I wanted to share. Based upon the inference to the light bulb joke, you can probably guess the answer. Check out the post to read the survey findings by Infonomics from earlier this year.

US Court Rules AGAINST FCC On Net Neutrality In Big Win For Comcast
For those who are following the network neutrality debate, here is an article on a recent court ruling that you should take a moment to read. I will give you the spoilers alert, but encourage you to read the article anyway.
Spolier’s Alert – A US federal appeals court reined in the FCC by ruling that it overstepped its authority when it penalized Comcast for surreptitiously disabling a popular technology that let people share files online. The ruling did not quell the commission’s interest in regulating the way Internet service providers such as Comcast manage their networks.
US Court Rules AGAINST FCC On Net Neutrality In Big Win For Comcast
If you are asking the question…what is network neutrality? Here is a wikipedia definition on network neutrality in the United States is a contentious issue. Currently there is general network neutrality in the United States, meaning that telecommunications companies rarely offer different rates to broadband and dial-up Internet consumers based on Internet-based content or service type; however, there are no clear legal restrictions against this. Many broadband services block common service ports, such as port 25 (SMTP) for e-mail servers, or port 80 for HTTP, by the latter preventing consumers from running a website on the standard HTTP port unless they upgrade to a “business” account (a form of price discrimination). In recent years, advocates of network neutrality have sought to restrict such changes.

It’s Brand New, but Make It Sound Familiar
As a long time technology guy who has invested a lot of time with the “new” or “better” mouse trap and bringing it to the masses who have up until that particular movement where I was going to tell them about it, had lived relatively fulfilled lives.
Internally, you work your self up into a lather with all of the bells and whistles and how it (I am smiling as I write this) will help mankind and how we as a company will make history. There is one small point that is over looked, humans are creatures of habit and want to categorize everything and put everything into a box. As as much as you know that up until this moment, there has not been anything ever like this new product. Further, you wouldn’t want this product’s reputation with an idle comparison to a product category. Check out the NY Times piece “ It’s Brand New, but Make it Sound Familiar”

Social Media Marketing Defined for Executives and Entrepreneurs
There is a lot of discussion about the real impact of social media on maketing on consumer buying decisions and consumer spend. Some question that while certainly social media has influence, grabs attention, and engages, that it does not consistently and successfully influence the consumer and drive the consumer to action (buying). I say simply, social media is a new construct and if you understand that construct and operate within it, you will be successful with the buying actions and loyalty.
The challenge is that traditional marketing and advertising organizations are using the old construct which will not work with social media marketing. We have seen this in other industries where the recognition of a different construct is at play was not recognized and not only an opportunity was missed, but these organizations holding onto the old way are positioning themselves to miss the party entirely.
I want to sharing a slide set from one of our business partners, Growth Strategies, that is a great primer for Social Media Marketing and is targeted for Executives and Entrepreneurs. Enjoy!
